Examples: The H in hot has a different sound from the H in Mouth. The S in has sounds like z. The G sounds like name of the letter G in huge, but not in hug. The C sounds like the name of C in cell, like the k in cup, like the sh in social, and like the name of the letter Q in cute. The Q always sounds like the letter K, not like the name of the letter Q and every Q is followed by a U and then by a vowel. The sound of the actual letter Q is not found in Q, but in cu as in cute. The Y has five sounds: yes, by, happy, day, boy, gym. The W has four sounds: we, few, low, cow. Students are informed of such changes beforehand.

The Prefixes

All of the prefixes in 900 words are presented at the end of the consonants’ book.
