Summary of a Lesson: The K sound is spelled with K or C or Ch or Q or X. The ch as in chemistry is in approximately 70 words.

1. The first rule is that the letter K is not allowed in long words and that the letter K occurs in a very limited number of words (approximately 40 useful words). Therefore, when you hear the K sound spell it with a C 98% of the time. Specifically, do not use a K but use a C in these 12 spelling patterns: 1-cat, academy 2–cold, consonants 3–cup, accurate 4–club, conclude 5–crop, describe 6-fact, character 7-sick, fantastic 8–accident, back 9-sock, occupy 10-deck, eccentric 11-luck, chuckle 12–choir, chemistry

2. The second rule is that when you hear the S sound after the K sound, spell it with an x, as in fax.

3. The third rule is that when you hear the W sound after the K sound, spell it with a qu, as in queen.
